All of my friends were meeting girls last summer
I wanted to get in on the action
But I settled for a terrible girl
I was the alcoholic who uses the spare change in the jar to go out and buy cheap liquor
Instead of the guy who digs into his wallet so he can by a bottle of Jack Daniels
All the guys sat around a bar
One had an import
One had a domestic
Then, there is me
Holding my cheap bottle of store brand liquor
Everybody was laughing and having a good time
I looked to my left
And saw my friend enjoying his import
I looked to my right
And saw my other friend enjoying his domestic
They are laughing at me because I have yet to immerse myself in my beverage
I circle it a few times around my nose
To get the aroma
I raise the bottle
To take a drink
But, I catch a glimpse of myself getting ready to drink in the mirror
I pause
Then I set the bottle down on the bar
I step away from the bar
My friends just kind of stare at me
Then they shrug their shoulders
I head towards the exit of the bar
I open the door
And breathe in the cool crisp air
I turn around and look in at my friends
My friends moved onto to other kinds of alcoholic beverages
I will never consume cheap alcohol
I can't even believe I purchased it
What was I thinking
The cheap liquor remains for sale still at the bar
I no longer have the temptation for cheap store brand booze
I haven't seen the girl since

I've read this before... either you've posted it, or read it, or something before, a long time ago... this is an old poem, either word for word or re-hashed....

Yes, this is some of my stuff that I'd written actually when I was in a cast last spring.....But I sent it out to a couple of you guys in email this fall......I was reading some of my older stuff.....And I came across this one, particullarly liked this one......But I wondered what others thought about it, and could find ways maybe improve on......Truth

i don't remember it and honestly - i don't get it.. because of the linking or something... did the girl represent the liquor, or the liquor represent the girl, or somethin like that?
